Boys Dress Up Costume Trends

Updated: Apr 19, 2021

Usually we think of little girls when we think about dressing up in costumes, but for little boys, dressing up isn't just for Halloween any more. Little boys love to dress up and pretend to be their heroes. They love to act just like Batman or Spiderman on their quest to save the world! There are a lot of dress ups to choose from out there. This guide will help you decide which ones will be best for you and your little boy. Boys tend to be a little hard on their clothes as well as their costumes, so make sure you choose quality costumes that will withstand hours of pretend play with your little superhero.

The Disney Store has lots of great and fun costumes for boys from superheroes like the Incredibles to much kinder styles in Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. Costumes at the Disney Store tend to be quite pricey, usually in the $20-$75 range. However, they are made very well and stand the test of time. They can have multiple uses as your child can use them for dress up clothes as well as for Halloween costumes, for their next trip to Disneyland, or for parties and special events where costumes are encouraged. The Disney Store generally does huge clearance sales in the Spring and in the Fall. So if you shop at their store during these times, you can generally enjoy up to 50% off.

If your budget does not allow purchases at the Disney Store, try buying gently used boys dress up clothes on eBay. You can find cute and quality dress ups for $5-$25 and they usually have a lot of good use left in them. Usually, dress ups that are easy to get on and off are best for little boys. It is hard for them to do buttons by themselves and to get things over their heads and backsides, so choose things like capes with Velcro that are easy to get on and off. Superhero capes are really cute. You could look for a dragon cape so your little boy can play with little girls who like to dress up as princesses. Waist bands with elastic are also a good choice when choosing costumes for boys that have a shirt and pants. Your local discount store may not be the best place to find quality dress ups for your boys. Usually the costumes at stores like Wal-mart and Target are cheaply made and won't fit for very long because they run in such small sizes. Beware of the low quality dress ups you will find here as they are likely to fall apart if you have an active little boy at home. His explanation carlet witch costume comics

If you want a middle of the road costume in terms of price, Little Adventures is a really good brand. They mainly sell dress up clothes for girls, but they have a small line of really cute boys dress up clothes. The Bat and Spider capes are really cute. They also have pullover shirts for boys to dress up like a knight or medieval prince. If your boy is into Harry Potter, they have a black wizard cape/cloak with a light up wizard wand that is really cute and reasonably priced. All of their costumes are machine washable and very nicely made. They stand up to aggressive boy play. These costumes run in the $15-$29 range. Look out for sales around Halloween and Christmas time.
